Delivering the Full-Fibre Gigabit Society

About the Event

Delivering the Full-Fibre Gigabit Society

The European Commission has set ambitious targets for the roll-out of very high capacity networks as it looks to achieve its objective of delivering the gigabit society in Europe by 2025. Many countries look set to miss these targets however, and Europe more broadly is lagging behind benchmarks that are being seen in other regions around the world.

We’ll take stock of the current situation with regards to the rollout of full-fibre broadband networks across Europe, the challenges and barriers to deployment that are being faced, and the path forward to overcome these and ensure that the economic, social and environmental benefits of ubiquitous high-speed broadband connectivity are felt as soon as possible.

Panel Discussion
  • What targets for the rollout of fibre networks have been set, and to what extent are countries in Europe on track to meet these?
  • What green benefits can a switch to fibre provide, and how can these be best leveraged both as part of post-Covid recovery plans and also to meet Europe’s broader sustainability targets?
  • What are the socio-economic benefits that full-fibre networks bring to Europe, and how can we work together to maximise the potential of these?
  • What has the explosion of enterprise and home service needs during the current pandemic taught us about the capability of existing networks around Europe and the urgency of digital infrastructure upgrade?
  • What examples of best practice and successful high-speed broadband rollout projects have been seen across Europe and globally, and what lessons can be learnt from these?
  • How can policymakers and industry work together to deliver the required investment in infrastructure and elsewhere?

About the Series

Under the spotlight logo forum europe

Forum Europe are proud to present ‘Under the Spotlight…’ – a strategic series of virtual EU policy events focussing on a range of key policy files and topics across different subject areas.

Working alongside thought-leaders and policymakers, each event will put a specific area ‘under the spotlight’ – providing a platform for a detailed discussion on the policy issues involved. By bringing together key stakeholders in this way, the aim of the series is to support transparency and inclusion in the policymaking process in a format that is accessible to all.

If you have an issue that you would like to see explored as part of the Under the Spotlight series contact James Wilmott at james.wilmott@forum-europe.com | + 44 (0) 29 20 783020.
